Which Fictional Character Am I ? (WordPress prompt 31/07/26)

Daily writing prompt
Who is the fictional character you relate to the most?

I asked ChatGPT, based on all our discourses, which character, fictional, would I be ? The reservoir draining, rare book destructive scanning emotionaless contraption mind said, “You are GAndalf, Or Morpheus. ”

Admittedly as far as the GAndalf goes, it emphasised I am not the fireball throwing GAndalf but the traveller in pursuit of aracne and lost wisdom etc, in as many words, I’ll attach the response below, but I am loathe to promote A.I…. I just couldn’t think what fictional character would I be?
with regards to Neil GAiman’s Morpheus aka Dream, well yes, lucid dreaming is a huge swathe of my path, and in life, I am more the observer than the participant. With the answer to hand I will watch how others arrive at the same conclusion, perhaps prompting now and then but always letting others take the crown. Of course, many’s the time I’m also wrong and deluded let me not kid myself, or you.
I’ll take Gandalf ….with a pinch of salt, and Dream with a grind of pepper.

ChatGPT Says

“What fictional character am I based on all my historical discourses with you ?”

Based on the themes you’ve explored over a long period—not just one conversation—a few fictional characters stand out. I’m not saying you are any of them, but they capture different aspects of the interests and style you’ve consistently shown.

1. Gandalf (closest overall)

Not because of magic in the flashy sense, but because of the pursuit of ancient knowledge.

You spend a great deal of time:

  • digging back to original sources rather than accepting modern retellings,
  • comparing translations,
  • looking for the earliest version of myths,
  • connecting mythology, philosophy, music, religion, and history.

That feels much more like a scholar of hidden traditions than a spell-caster.

2. Morpheus

Neil Gaiman’s Morpheus is immersed in myth, symbols, stories, dreams, and timeless archetypes.

Your questions often move between:

  • Greek mythology,
  • Sanskrit,
  • Hebrew,
  • Egyptian religion,
  • occultism,
  • folklore,
  • music inspired by old traditions.

There is a similar fascination with the persistence of stories through history.

The Random musings of a nobody. “Dagenham Dave”, is slang for someone one stop short of Barking (mad), though more contemporarily refers to any wayfaring and carefree person. Dagenham is a town to the eastern side of London (Luds Dominium) that was first recorded in a Barking charter in 666a.d. as the town of Daeccanham. Daecca is an ancient man’s name meaning ‘bright’ or ‘famous’ . Ham is short for Hamlet.
Dave is short for David, Hebrew for ‘Beloved’, My Surname ‘Wenborn’ derives from old English meaning of the Winding Stream.

Contents:-
1/ Book Reviews.

They’re not reviews as such- to recommend or asway, I neither seek to promote nor condemn, more my personal reflections on the books I read. In that respect it’s a subjective thing. I write the reviews as it instils in the mind, like writing down your dreams on waking, the right to remember.

2/ Short Stories and Tales

Short stories borne from imagination, dreams, thoughts and wanderings. Too large to be written in my journal of shadows.

3/ Full Books
Books that were once published elsewhere, I have full copyright on these, and of course given here freely.

4/ Magazines and Articles

Small snippets and articles that may or may not have appeared elsewhere, and information not included in Journal of shadows.

5/ Poetry

A small selection of poetry. Like song, I create as a means to an artistic diary.

6/ WordPress Challenges

Wordpress (where this website is hosted) offer up a daily prompt for people to answer, sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t.
