The simple act of questioning, the great word Why ? and these bought on by various experiences and usually from challenges wrought by books or magazines.
I remember when too young to be reading adult humour I devoured the pages of ‘Mad’ Magazine. I saw within sarcasm directed at TV, at Film at current affairs and it made me think, things could be challenged.
In books I learnt to question, whether that was politics or religion, faith or education. The question why. Why are things so pigeonholed, categorized. I challenged with sarcasm and with humour, and then with quotes and facts. I loved Art, in all its phases, from ultra realism to naïve impressionism. I loved music, all sorts and all genres. I refused to conform, the lyrics of punk rock, challenge, upset, destroy and demand the impossible. The books of the beatniks, the books of the anarchists and eco-warriors, the wisdom of Zen, Buddhism, The Upanishads, the poetry of the weird and wonderful.
The mind will act according to its parameters, its limits and its experiences. So tear down the walls, and experience beyond the comfort zone, read books, listen to music, study art that normally you wouldn’t give time of day to. That’s what I did, and that’s why I am the way I am. Be a Polymath, be your own renaissance.
Writing Prompt 02/03/24 Life experiences
The Random musings of a nobody. “Dagenham Dave”, is slang for someone one stop short of Barking (mad), though more contemporarily refers to any wayfaring and carefree person. Dagenham is a town to the eastern side of London (Luds Dominium) that was first recorded in a Barking charter in 666a.d. as the town of Daeccanham. Daecca is an ancient man’s name meaning ‘bright’ or ‘famous’ . Ham is short for Hamlet.
Dave is short for David, Hebrew for ‘Beloved’, My Surname ‘Wenborn’ derives from old English meaning of the Winding Stream.
